Amongst our daily life experiences, we come
across situations when we get unduly upset or
frustrated. We tend to lose our temper so easily
on silly things. No matter how hard your friends
try to cheer you up, your face still reflects
gloom. A state of confusion it is. After
everything when we try to find the root cause of
this causal chain, we find none!
Preeti was a second year college student. A girl
with a very subtle nature which was mirrored
by her decency. She rarely gave off her cool
composure. Even if circumstances attempted to
test her patience, it was unlikely for her to
distort her state of mind. But after all time
comes for all with all sorts of surprises & thrills.
Apart from this, she had passion for sketching.
She liked being engaged in some or the other
things she loved. Not that she was obsessed with
work; she had a balanced life where she equally
dedicated time for recreation, fun & family.
It was a lazy Sunday. She woke up late and with
regrets of having ruined the plans she had for
the day. She thought of changing her mind &
convinced herself to stay indoors. While walking
around the room she was just thinking of how
to remake her day when her eyes fell on her
favourite comics collection. The train of running
thoughts suddenly came to halt. She decided to
read a few comics and then plan for the rest of
the day.
Hours passed by, preeti remained oblivious of
the clock that ticked. She had completed almost
four of the comics back to back. It was when her
phone rang, she realised that it was half past 12
in the noon. It was not too late that her face
showed some signs of distress. After her lunch
she did not feel like doing anything. Her
afternoon passed indolently. In the evening
when she woke up she found herself irksome.
She was getting bothered even by the normal
behaviour of others. She thought of diverting
her mind by giving some time for sketching but
she was not able to focus her mind. She started
mulling about why she was not able to
concentrate on the thing she loved. Was it that
she was losing interests or was it related to her
skills? Lots & lots of thoughts building up from
nowhere. After all tries she sat down & tried to
combat this change of her behaviour. She
wanted to peer through these disturbing tides
and find out the reason why this was happening
with her.
We all know that we get disappointed when
things don’t go according to our plans/ wishes.
We mess up our thoughts and get lost in
searching for that one thought that had left such
an effect on us. WE console ourselves saying
“Dude, it’s okay, its normal.”But our brain
refuses what our heart already knows!
The solution first asks you to CALM down.
Meditate or listen some soothing music. Yes I
know the problem doesn’t get solved here, but
almost 30-40% of this trouble dissolves right
here! You are upset and for sure there’s a
reason behind it. In Preeti’s case the reason
behind her frustration was that she did not
spend her day as planned. Though the patient
side of hers tried to soothe her she was unable
to gain control over the situation.
Friends, it’s not possible to always have things
as expected. All frustrations are self-induced.
The outside world can invite us to get upset, but
we ultimately accept the invitation. We cannot
change the way things gonna be. But of course
we can change the way we REACT. If things do
not go well, fine! Remember the control system
is with us. Day & plans ruined? Make new plans
and add more fun.
Think of alternatives. Look for more chances.
Do what makes you happy.
Shift your attention towards the things you love.
Time gone cannot be brought back. But what
you make out of your life now and on is
definitely under your control and will. Make the
best of it.
Smile!
